Jenny Mclane asked:

Americans have been known for their many passions which includes speed. This apparent need for speed has led to the creation of motor races which have been attracting Americans year after year. While the sport may not seem as physical as other sports such as baseball, football, and basket ball, a huge number of Americans are supporting sports based on the speed of automobiles. And when one speaks of car race, the first thing that comes to mind is the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.

The said championship series has captured the imagination of millions of Americans who are known for their attraction to speed contests. The United States is also undoubtedly the biggest market for automobiles in the world which is a reason for the love of automobiles shown by Americans. As popular as the Nextel Cup Series may be, there are still a large number of people who are still in the dark what this sport is about.

Basically, the Nextel Cup is a series of races where the best race car driver, as judged by the number of points received during the duration of the entire series of races is crowned as the champion. The motorsport can be traced back to the days when races are between “strictly stock” cars or cars which have not been modified in any way. During those early days, one can bring a car to the tracks and race it.

Today though, the race cars used in the Nextel Cup Series are tailor made for racing. Although teams can tinker with their cars to make it better than the competition’s, NASCAR imposes rules to keep the cars equal. This year, four car brands have their vehicles racing at the series. These are Ford, Dodge, Toyota, and Chevrolet. The latter has been dominating the current series by winning nine of the last ten races.

While a NASCAR Nextel Cup race car can be modified for racing, they must have three stock parts from manufacturers. These three parts are the roof, the trunk lid, and the hood of the cars. Aside from these three parts, the chassis, the drive train, suspension, steering, and other systems can be modified to make the car so as to be suited to the demands of high speed operations. In fact, aftermarket parts such as the Pacesetter exhaust parts can be used by these race cars. While these systems can be tinkered with, NASCAR set some rules that each team must meet including the weight of the race car.

Currently, the weight set by NASCAR for race cars is 3,400 pounds. Another rule is that the distance between the front and rear wheels should also be uniform on all race cars which would compete in the Nextel Cup Series. The wheelbase of all race cars should be 100 inches. The fuel capacity of these race cars are also controlled by NASCAR. For most tracks, the mandated fuel capacity is 17.5 gallons. All race cars entering the contest should have the same fuel type which is 110 octane unleaded fuel as ruled by the sport’s sanctioning body. The cars’ top speed also has a limit which is set at 235 miles per hour.

For a car to be permitted to race at the Nextel Cup Series, its engine should conform to the rules set by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR. For instance, electronic features are not permitted and instead, mechanical parts are used. This keeps the costs from ballooning for the benefit of teams competing in the races. Engines allowed to be used on race cars competing in the Nextel Cup Series should have eight cylinders with combustion chambers measuring 358 cubic inches. To keep the cars equal power output is set at a maximum of approximately 750 horsepower.

An interesting fact about these race cars is their headlights. Since these cars are raced only during the day, they do not need to have a pair of headlights. The actual headlights that we see in front of these cars are in fact decals which look realistic enough to fool the unknowing person. Another interesting fact about these race cars is that they have to meet a number of templates that NASCAR is using to make sure that the shape of the cars is almost uniform. The tires used on these cars have no tread on them which is the reason why the Jimmy Stewart 400 was postponed due to the rain that poured during the event. The absence of treads on the tires of these cars makes them impossible to race in wet tracks. The tire compound used on these cars’ tire is harder than those used by other motorsport vehicles given the fact that these race cars significantly weigh more.

Popular Formula D Tire Manufacturers

Uchenna Ani-Okoye asked:

Sport fans tend to follow the sponsors of their favourite team or player. The same can be said with auto racing; the only difference is that these players are referred to as drivers. In fact, with auto racing, this is most commonly seen with NASCAR. It has been said that NASCAR has the largest group of loyal fans. Fans not only support the sponsors of their favourite drivers, but they also tend to purchase merchandise or services from them. The same can be said with Formula Drifting.

Formula Drifting is a sport that is relatively new to the United States. Despite the fact that the first professional event was held in 2004, the sport still has quite the fan following. Like many NASCAR fans, these fans are loyal. That is why a large number of sponsors, also commonly referred to as product manufacturers have made the decision to become involved with the sport. When it comes to Formula D, the sponsors that most often first come to mind are tire manufacturers.

Tire manufacturers do not just get their name on a driver’s uniform, but they also provide that driver with tires. With Formula D, the tires used are extremely important. In fact, to create a drift the tires need to loose tractions with the ground. This essentially helps to create the perfect drift. Since tires are so important to the sport of drifting, there are a large number of tire manufacturers who have inserted themselves into the sport. In fact, it has been noted that Formula D has the most tire manufacturer sponsors of any other motor sport; which includes NASCAR.

Nitto Tire is one of the many tire manufacturers that is involved with Formula Drifting. This manufacturer, like many other tire manufacturers, makes tires for all different vehicles and all different driving conditions. While they are well known for their tires for traditional vehicles, such as cars, SUV, and trucks, Nitto Tire is most well known for its racing tires. One of these tires includes the NT 555 RII. This type of tire is used primarily with road racing and other competitive sports, such as Formula D.

BF Goodrich Tire is another tire manufacturer that participates in Formula Drifting. This tire manufacturer is one of the most well known manufacturers in the United States. As with Nitto Tires, BG Goodrich Tires has a wide variety of different tires, available for all different uses. When it comes to sports cars and Formula Drifting, quite a few BF Goodrich Tires are ideal for the sport.

Maxxis Tires, another sponsor and tire manufacturer involved in Formula D, is also a well known tire manufacturer. Although they are not as well known to most everyday individuals, they are well known to those involved in auto sports, such as auto racing or Formula Drifting. In fact, most of Maxxis Tire’s focus is placed on auto sports, including Formula Drifting.

Perhaps, out of all of the tire manufacturers and sponsors, for Formula Drifting, Bridgestone is the most well known. Bridgestone’s tires are not only used in Formula D, but other motor sports as well. These additional sports include, but are not limited to, Formula 1, supercross racing, and monster truck racing. Bridgestone is not just popular among racing, but it is a company that is known by just about everyone. In fact, there is even a chance that you have Bridgestone tires on your personal vehicle.

In addition to the above mentioned tire manufacturers, Toyo Tires, Falken Tires, Cooper Tires, and Dunlop Tires are also Formula D sponsors. To add interest or extra excitement to your next Formula D event, keep an eye on the tires being used. While all of these tire manufacturers come highly recommended, you will often find that the tires used makes all the difference in the world.

Why America Loves NASCAR Racing

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008
NASCAR
Fred Peters asked:

NASCAR Racing has become one of the most popular sports in America and its popularity is increasing every year. For those of us who are NASCAR fans we completely understand why it has increased in popularity, but many others don’t understand why. To those non-NASCAR fans, they ask, “What is there to love about a sport with just left turns?”.

So why is NASCAR racing so popular? It is hard to say, but I think that there are several reasons that come up over and over. This article will explore why NASCAR fans love the sport so much..

The first reason that NASCAR racing is so popular is that it is easy to follow. My wife has watched football all of her life, but to this day she does not truly understand the rules. However, the rules of NASCAR racing are fairly easy. As with any race, the NASCAR driver that finishes first wins. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Over 100,000 NASCAR fans show up at the racetrack every week to watch their favorite NASCAR drivers race toward the Sprint Cup. But many million more fans have a Sunday ritual of watching television on raceday. This doesn’t even count the many more who gain access to BUSCH races, qualifying sessions, and practice sessions. There are also many race fans who make big weekend events out of races with tailgating and barbeque grilling.

The second reason why NASCAR racing is so popular is because NASCAR has done a great job making it a family sport. Husbands, wives and children all love to watch the races together as a family. A husband may like Tony Stewart, a wife Dale Jr and the kids liking Jeff Gordon. This is one of the biggest reason why NASCAR racing has seen an increase in popularity. It is a family sport. Both kids and adults like racing.

Another one of the many reasons why NASCAR racing has seen an increase in popularity is because of the drivers. Most racers seem like your average guys. They don’t come off as primadonnas like in baseball and basketball. Many NASCAR drivers started racing around dirt tracks and come from normal upbringings just like the fans of the sport..

NASCAR is popular for many different number of reasons. One article can’t describe in totality why millions of Americans tune into watch a NASCAR race. However, the results speak for themselves. NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in terms of popularity in the United States. It is showing no signs of leveling out in its grow of fans.

I gotta say its the F1 one for me by quite a distance followed by the IRL. Because that is phenomonally brave stuff 3 wide, with open wheels at those speeds. Crazy. Surely the NASCAR fans cant say that isnt real cool…

How to Go About Collecting Nascar Memorabilia

Friday, July 11th, 2008
NASCAR
Robert Riles asked:

In case you are a Nascar or racing fan, then you must be interested in collecting Nascar memorabilia. Most sports fans and enthusiasts like to keep a part of racing history with themselves in the form of Nascar memorabilia. You can also start building up your Nascar memorabilia collection provided you start looking in the right places.

Some of the ways in which you can acquire Nascar memorabilia are as follows:

•Thanks to the Internet, the most convenient method of laying your hands on your favorite Nascar memorabilia is buying it online. The Internet, apart from being the largest market for a number of commodities, is also the best place to locate a particular piece of sporting memorabilia or any other sports related item that you might not be able to find easily in your neighborhood or town stores. Buying Nascar memorabilia from Internet stores is a good idea, provided your seller guarantees hundred percent money back in case you are not satisfied with the merchandise or if you have any doubts related to authenticity. Also remember that all authentic memorabilia comes with a certificate of authenticity, so make sure that your Nascar memorabilia also comes with a cert.

•If you are one of those people who do not believe in buying before touching, then internet sales are definitely out for you. However, do not be disheartened, for there are a number of other ways and means of acquiring Nascar memorabilia. Many sporting good stores carry sports memorabilia, and you might be able to find something in your local stores that suits your tastes. Some sports shops are especially dedicated to memorabilia and you will definitely be able to find at least some pieces of Nascar memorabilia in any such sport memorabilia store.

•Auctions are another good source that throw up some really interesting and valuable pieces of sports memorabilia. If you are lucky, you might be able to visit a local sports memorabilia auction somewhere in your city. If you cannot, then the internet will once again come to your help in the form of online auctions. There are a large number of Nascar memorabilia items being auctioned off at any particular time on the World Wide Web. When buying from online auctions however, make sure that you follow the rules of safe online buying given earlier. Another thing to keep in mind is to buy only from a reputed website.

•Last but not the least; local garage sales can at times turn out to be veritable treasure troves of Nascar memorabilia. In order to find something of value to you, keep checking the classified sections of your local newspapers and make a point to visit any garage sales ads that mention a sale of sporting or Nascar memorabilia. You might end up finding a number of interesting items at these places, so much so that you might decide to become a regular garage sales customer in a quest to increase your collection of Nascar memorabilia.
